Museum of Contemporary Art


MCASD functions as a museum whose programs encompass the art of our time; a cultural center and forum for the exploration of contemporary art and ideas; and a research laboratory for artists and audiences to experiment and learn. Visitors come to MCASD to investigate a wide range of artists and the most recent developments emerging nationally and internationally as well as in San Diego/Tijuana. These two distinct and beautiful venues, where visitors can directly experience the work and ideas of living artists, are an important cultural destination for those coming to San Diego, California, for business or pleasure

Mingei International Museum


Mingei is a special word increasingly used throughout the world for "Arts Of The People." It was coined by the revered scholar, Dr. Soetsu Yanagi, through combining the Japanese words for all people (min) and art (gei).Mingei International presents dynamic, changing exhibitions of traditional and contemporary folk art, craft and design. All have the purpose of fulfilling its mission of "furthering understanding of art of people from all cultures of the world." Within a contemporary, architecturally designed setting, exhibitions are composed of the finest examples of creative expression. Each exhibition is a sculptural whole, providing space, light and relationship of objects for them to speak for themselves of the similarities and distinctions of individuals and cultures through the universal language of line, form and color --- a language which knows no barrier of time, place or race.

Museum of Photographic Arts


Is one of the country's first and finest museums dedicated solely to photographic and film arts. It offers changing exhibitions by masters of the art form and critically acclaimed work by celebrated photographers. The museum presents lectures, workshops and a theater hosts on-site film series. Oceanside Museum of Art


is a cultural jewel located in a classic Irving Gill designed building in downtown Oceanside. OMA presents five provocative exhibits each year and art instruction at the OMA-School of Art. Also offered is chamber music in the museum galleries, bus tours to other art museums in Southern California, lectures, workshops and museum tours for school classes and community groups. Oceanside Museum of Art is a gathering place where friends meet to share and enjoy the rich cultural experiences available in the region.

Offers a fascinating stroll among more than 80 automobiles and motorcycles. From the Model T to the Maserati, it's a trip down Memory Lane. The Museum Store is stocked with exceptional car lover merchandise, and the research library is open to the public. Palisades area of Balboa Park.

San Diego Model Railroad Museu


Celebrates America's railroads with the largest permanent operating model railroad and toy train exhibit in the United States. The 24,000 square foot museum has four giant scale model railroads of the Southwest, including an "HO" 1/87 actual size replica of one of the largest timber trestles in North America. Children of all ages can enjoy being engineer on a special Lionel layout. A fun San Diego museum attraction. Downstairs in the Casa De Balboa Building in Balboa Park.

Timken Museum of Art


the Timken Museum of Art houses the world-class Putnam Foundation Collection of European old masters American art, and Russian icons. Artworks in the collection range from 13th-century altarpieces through 18th-century portraits to 19th-century still lifes. Represented are the works of Dutch, Flemish, French, and Italian painters, including Rembrandt, Rubens, Petrus Christus, Fragonard, Jacques-Louis David, and Veronese, as well as American artists such as John Singleton Copley and Eastman Johnson.

Children's Museum

Aerospace Museum

Gas & Steam Engine Museum


On our farm we have a Blacksmith shop and a Wheelwright shop. Steam and gas, stationary and mobile, industrial power units. Each year we grow a crop of winter wheat, demonstrating local dry land farming techniques. During our twice yearly Harvest Fairs, we demonstrate harvesting and shocking. Our Gristmill grinds crops into flour that you may purchase at a reasonable cost. During the summer months we grow a crop of irrigated Sorghum Cane, which is harvested and processed into Molasses, during our Fall Harvest Fair.

Cabrillo National Monument

Julian Pioneer Museum


This museum is located in what was once a blacksmith's shop. Now it has displays of indian, pioneer, and gold rush times. They have the largest collection of laces in California. If you look up you will see several stuffed animals, ask the ladies incharge, they each have their own names. Large collection of tools. Lovely display of old clothes.

Junipero Serra Museum


Is a striking mission-style building constructed in 1929 to commemorate the site where Father Junipero Serra and Captain Gaspar de Portola established the first mission and fortified settlement in present-day California. The museum showcases artifacts such as housewares, furniture, tools and a cannon from the Native American, Spanish, Mexican, and American periods through 1929. The Museum Store offers a complete selection of books on early San Diego and California history. In Presidio Park above Old Town State Historic Park. A popular San Diego attraction.

Antique Gas & Steam Engine Mus


Brings back memories of rural lifestyles and family traditions. Located on 40 acres of rolling farm land in Vista, the equipment is in operating condition and used in Museum programs. The collection focuses on equipment from 1849 to1950 covering agriculture, construction and early industrial trades. Exhibits include blacksmith and wheelwright shop, country kitchen and parlor, steam and gas industrial power units, gristmill and sawmill and farm equipment from horse drawn through modern row crop.
